Many in the Stop the F-35 Coalition are concerned about who to vote for in this year’s elections. The choices are generally not great. Senator Sanders and Congressman Welch have both proclaimed support for the F-35 coming to Vermont. Governor Shumlin and candidate Brock have also stated their support for the stealth bomber/fighter plane. There is however a write-in candidate for Governor who has repeatedly expressed that she is against the F-35 being placed at Vermont’s Burlington airport. Her name is Annette Smith. To write in her name, simple write in Annette Smith in the last box under the Governor’s race and fill in the bubble after her name.
On October 18th John McGovern the Republican candidate for the US Senate came out against the F-35 after attending the St. Michael’s College F-35 Conversation held the previous night.
On October 20th the Burlington Free Press published the Chittenden County Senate candidates’ responses to the question, do you support or oppose the F-35 coming to Burlington International Airport? The following five candidates clearly indicated that they oppose the deployment of the F-35 at BTV: Philip Baruth, Sally Fox, Richard Jeroloman, David Zuckerman and Patrick Brown. Four candidates expressed reservations, but did not take a direct opposition stance; Tim Ashe, Debbie Ingram, Ginny Lyons and Diane Snelling. Three candidates expressed direct support for the F-35 coming to Burlington; Bob Kiss, Robert Letovsky and Shelly Palmer.
